About Bret

A counselor, teacher, and fellow traveler

Bret Legg is a pastoral counselor, Bible teacher, and writer in Augusta, GA who helps people find meaning in life, marriage, and faith. For decades he has walked alongside individuals, couples, and families through marriage and family struggles, personal growth, and recovery from abuse — grounding every conversation in Scripture, plain wisdom, and genuine hope.

His story

Why this work

Bret is a pastoral counselor, teacher, blogger, and writer who helps people learn how to better enjoy their everyday life, marriage, and faith. That sentence is simple on purpose — because the work itself is simple, even when life is not. People come carrying something heavy, and Bret sits with them, listens carefully, and helps them find the next honest step.

For more than three decades he has sat across from couples on the edge of giving up, parents who were genuinely at a loss, and survivors quietly finding their voice again. He's watched marriages move from roommates back to friends, families learn to talk instead of brace, and people who thought they were beyond hope discover they were never as alone as they felt.

He teaches the Bible the same way he counsels — plainly and practically, with both feet on the ground. No insider language, no shame, no pretending the hard parts aren't hard. Just truth offered with grace, because Bret believes the right word at the right time really can change the course of a life.

What I believe

An approach that's faith-integrated, practical, and hopeful

Bret's counseling starts with hope, not a diagnosis. He believes people are made by God for meaning and connection, that no story is too far gone, and that real change usually begins with one honest conversation. The work is faith-integrated — Scripture and prayer are welcome — and unfailingly practical, aimed at the next small, doable step rather than a perfect plan.

In practice, that approach looks like:

  • Hope first — naming what's possible before dwelling on what's wrong.
  • Practical and doable — one honest next step instead of a perfect ten-year plan.
  • Faith, freely offered — Scripture and prayer are invited, never forced on you.
  • Your pace — you share only what you're ready to share, when you're ready.

Most of all it's human. You won't be a case file. You'll be a person, met with patience and warmth, wherever you happen to be standing right now.

  • Faith-integrated
  • Practical & doable
  • Hope-first
  • Plain-spoken
  • Confidential
  • Never clinical

An honest note about scope. Pastoral counseling is faith-based spiritual care — it is not licensed clinical therapy, and Bret is a pastoral counselor, not a licensed clinical therapist. When a situation calls for licensed or medical care, he'll gladly help you connect with the right professional. You can read more on the counseling page.
